Maria Sharapova reaches Wimbledon final again

Will Maria Sharapova be able to win her second Wimbledon crown?

On Thursday, the Russian Tennis juggernaut Maria Sharapova outgunned German youngster Sabine Lisicki, who was the wild card from Germany to Wimbledon, London.

Maria Shapova defeated Sabine Lisicki in straight sets to make a power entry in to her first Wimbledon final for seven years as she was in the Wimbledon final 2004 seven years ago when she won the cup.

Maria Sharapova is fifth seed and she is the winner of Wimbledon 2004. She easily overcame the hard hitting Sabine Lisicki with 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the final match against Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova, who is eighth seed. The final match of Wimbledon women’s draw will be on Saturday.

The German wild card entry Sabine Lisicki who stunned French Open champion Li Na during a fairytale run to enter to the last four is world number 62. Li Na is world number 2, and yet she lost to Sabine. Lisicki was always in trouble against Maria Sharapova.

After winning the match pretty comfortably, Maria Sharapova shared her wonder moments as she said, "It's amazing to be back in the final at Wimbledon, it's been a while."

Sharapova further added, "I'm really happy even though I didn't play my best tennis today."

During the match, Sharapova totted up 13 double-faults during a patchy display.

She added, "To be in the final is a great achievement for me but I still feel like I've got more to do."

It was a horrendous start for Maria Sharapova as she double faulted twice in her opening service game due to which Sabine Lisicki enjoyed a surge into 2-0 lead.

Sabine Lisicki was fast enough to clock serve at 120 mph. She easily added the lead to go 3-0.

Sharapova was about to lag behind with 4-0 however, she saved her chances through gaining a crucial break point against Sabine Lisicki to eventually hold her at 3-1.

Maria Sharapova is well known for her power shots and accurate serves, but her service game was misfiring. She decided to rely upon her power shots and concentrated more on her booming groundstrokes. She attacked Lisicki severely to break back in the fifth game.

Sharapova then reached 3-3 but just after that, Sabine Lisicki gained her momentum back to reach a leading position to 4-3 up.

Sabine Lisicki’s serve misfired for her in the eigth game and Sharapova chose to punish her second serve mercilessly to cause another suffering for the German wild card entry.

Then Maria Sharapova was able to complete the first set with her first ace of the match.

Maria Sharapova let out an impressive roar of delight as she forced Sabine Lisicki to trug back to her chair.

After that, Sabine Lisicki found it harder to gain momentum as she sufferrd in the opening game of the second set and double-faulted. That was no less than two beautiful gifts for Sharapova to gain yet another break.

Sabine Lisicki was certainly in disarray as the 21 year old German girl appealed to the umpire as drops of rain began to fall on the Center Court during her next service game at 0-30 down.

However, the umpire decided against her appeal and the play continued to let Maria Sharapova secure another break to go 3-0 up and from there the result was almost certain.

Sabine Lisicki gained a ray of hope when she succeeded in gaining abreak in the fourth service game, however, Maria Sharapova broke back again immediately after that and proceeded to regain the initiative to hold 5-1 up.

Lisicki again got a break in the eighth game yet, it was not enough and it only delayed the inevitable defeat of Lisicki a little more. Maria Sharapova succeeded in breaking back again and to win the game.
