Maria Shriver and her Relation with Special Olympians

Maria Shriver and her Relation with Special Olympians

You may term it as one of her first forays in the public eye right since the debacle she faced over her husband’s (Arnold Schwarzenegger) love child scandal.

Maria Shriver recently gave attention to her blog as she made a blog post on Friday.

Maria Shriver is a member of the International Board of Special Olympics. Maria Shriver is 55 years old now.

She mentioned in her blog about how she can relate herself to the athletes who are participating in the Special Olympics World Games. The competition will get a kick start from Saturday in Athens.

In her blog, Maria Shriver wrote, "My friend, Special Olympian Eddie Barbanell, wrote me a beautiful note before I traveled to Athens that made me feel so good. He said that he knew I was going through a rough time but he wanted me to know that I 'will never be left out.'"

Shriver further commented, "Special Olympians, and people with intellectual disabilities in general, have experienced the feeling of being left out over and over again. This makes them wise teachers on this topic. I thought it was poignant that Eddie was the one who delivered this message to me."

She continued to write, "Thousands of people – family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and many people I've never met – have reached out to me recently with loving, uplifting, hopeful and kind messages. But he was the only one who wrote, 'You will never be left out.'

Maria Shriver is looking forward to enjoy the Opening Ceremony of Special Olympics World Games that will be held on Saturday night in which a parade of about 7,000 athletes will take part.

Maria Shriver further added, "There is an incredibly strong spirit of unity here. My brother, Tim, talks often about launching a 'Dignity Revolution' throughout the world and you can definitely feel that in the air," to her blog.
